Attendance records were shattered at PAX Australia!
The jam-packed 3-day event brought all sectors of the gaming community together. Whether you’re an industry professional, cosplay artist, esports competitor, streamer, or a fan of games, there’s something for everyone at PAX.
This year the showroom floor was filled with playable game demos, state-of-the-art tech, merch stalls, classic games, and an unending sea of tabletop gameplaying.
Upstairs was the PAX Together lounge, with more booths and a packed schedule of panels ranging from thought-provoking discussions on gender and games to playful rankings of videogame companions.
Even walking the halls excited the senses. There was spectacular cosplay almost anywhere you turned, with Stray Gods and Balders Gate being topical favourites for the year. There were fans everywhere decked out in merch, with countless donning the iconic yellow pointed Pikachu hats handed out by Nintendo.
A major highlight was PAX Rising, the indie expo floor where upcoming Australian and New Zealand-made games were showcased with playable demos. An impressive group of student games from Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT were also on display.
Here you could find Melbourne-made games like Little Pink Cloud’s Letters to Arralla (pictured) — a game about delivering letters with puzzlingly cryptic addresses as a cheeky little turnip.
This year was PAX Australia’s 10th birthday — and what a year to celebrate Australia’s vibrant gaming scene.
