Discover Melbourne’s local games community with Games Week DLC

Games Week is reaching beyond the city centre this October with DLC: Discover Local Community; the new program that celebrates local venues, organisations, businesses and communities that make up the vibrant Melbourne scene.

Spanning nine local council areas with 25 different events, DLC offers something for all audiences. With themes spanning education, live shows, networking events, meetups, tabletop and community, DLC invites you to explore Melbourne, discover new games and meet new people.

In its first year the program spans from Narre Warren to Yarraville, shining a light on the people and places building community all year round. Below is a snippet of the events decorating the Games Week calendar:

Games Day

Bunjil Place | Narre Warren | Saturday 3 October

Free, Walk-in

Head to Narre Warren on Saturday 3 October for Games Day at Bunjil Place, a free, family-friendly celebration of play. The day will transform Bunjil Place into a hub of games and interactive experiences, with giant games, retro favourites, board game challenges and activities for all ages. It’s a chance to discover new ways to play, revisit some classics and spend the day playing with friends and family.

Jazz Theft Auto

Kindred Bandroom | Yarraville | Thursday 8 October

What happens when a jazz band takes on the world of Grand Theft Auto? Jazz Theft Auto brings the soundtrack and atmosphere of Vice City to life in a live musical heist at Kindred Bandroom in Yarraville. The band and audience are both part of the grand theft experience, as live jazz meets the anarchic world of GTA.

ARCA Arcade

St Kilda Town Hall | St Kilda | Monday - Friday

ARCA Arcade is a touring exhibition of playable arcade cabinets. Now showing at Carlisle Street Arts Space, the exhibition transforms arcade machines into art, bringing classic gaming favourites to life. Under the direction of designer Preston Khan McNeil, playable arcade machines become wall mounted installations, adorned by te ao Māori influences and styles of Aotearoa New Zealand's eminent artists.

Goblin Errands

For tabletop fans, Goblin Errands offers a very different kind of adventure. This light-hearted tabletop RPG puts players in the role of goblins attempting to complete seemingly ordinary errands in a world designed for much larger people. This is the perfect campaign for those new to TTRPG.

Melbourne Backgammon

Melbourne Backgammon Club runs a weekly night in Brighton for players of every level, from complete beginners to seasoned tournament players. If you're new, someone will teach you the rules and help you get started. If you want to improve, the last three winners of the Australian & New Zealand Backgammon Federation's intermediate division have all been club members. With members from all over the world and in all age groups, this is the perfect place to try a new game.

Boardgame Trivia at Boardies

Visit Boardies, Fitzroy's famous home of tabletop games to participate in Boardgame Trivia. Bring your friends or join one on the night. This is your chance to flex your expertise, win prizes and meet new people. Boardies is open every day except Mondays!
