Melbourne-based Summerfall Studios included as finalists at 2023 Tribeca Festival

Melbourne-based Summerfall Studios were included as finalists in the 2023 Tribeca Fillm Festival's Games Program, among seven featured promising upcoming games.

The Tribeca Film Festival’s Games Program has featured seven promising upcoming games in its June showcase. The Festival’s Games Program celebrates creative excellence in games from small-scale global studios.

Melbourne-based Summerfall Studios were included as finalists in the 2023 program for their game Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, set to be released August 2023. Each game was selected for demonstrating “potential in phenomenal storytelling and innovation through interactive experiences” (via tribecafilm.com).

Supported by VicScreen, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical imbues Greek mythology into a modern fantasy world. After receiving the power of Song by the last muse, players navigate branching musical numbers that change according to their decisions – a complex design process that the studio spotlighted at the Festival.

The Tribeca Games Program previewed more of the characters, story, and mythology driving Stray God’s heartfelt epic and mystical journey. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical was featured alongside leading global games. “This year, Tribeca’s games selections showcase creators who explore identity, emotion, and a sense of place through their games,” said Tribeca’s VP of Games and Immersive Casey Baltes.

Exclusive demos of all games featured were available to play at the Tribeca Festival in New York City throughout the month of June.
