Fringe-Video Games Made My Son Like Country Music

-

My favourite part of playing GTA: San Andreas was hopping in a car and listening to the K-Rose radio station, and now I’m playing those tunes on stage with a band. Co-Programmed as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2023.

My daddy never let me play violent video games when I was a boy. So when I finally got my hands on a PS2 copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, my whole world changed. I didn’t become an ultra-violent teen like the news said I would, but I did develop a deep appreciation for country music.

Everything changed after that. I would get home from school, jump in a car, turn on the radio and drive around the picturesque, yet clunky, San Andreas countryside listening to Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and more.

Now I've got a band, and we’re gonna play the tunes that shaped our salad days. You're listening to K-Rose!
