Melbourne Backgammon Club runs a weekly night in Brighton for players of every level, from complete beginners to seasoned tournament players. Ages range from early high school to well into retirement. Some people come mainly for the social side; others come for the competition.

If you're new, someone will teach you the rules and help you get started. If you want to improve, the last three winners of the Australian & New Zealand Backgammon Federation's intermediate division have all been club members.

The club has members from Australia, Denmark, France, England, Iran, Poland, Lebanon and the US, along with a growing number of women.

Matches are to 5 points, played with the doubling cube. New pairings are generated as soon as you're free, and you can play as many or as few matches as you like. There's also a weekly prize pool for those who want to add an extra $10 on the night.

We play every Thursday, 7-10pm, at Hub 133, 133 Thomas St, Brighton East. Entry is $10 cash, and drinks and snacks are provided. Come along any Thursday. No board or equipment required.
